Tension in Birganj against Dhanusha incident, police fired tear gas

Birganj. The Muslim community staged a violent protest in Virganj of Parsa against the vandalism of a mosque in Dhanwal by unknown persons. During the protest on Sunday, the situation in Birgunj became tense for some time when there was a clash between the police and the protestors.

The police fired about 5 rounds of tear gas while stopping the procession of the protestors from Birganj Ward No. 2. The police intervened when the protestors tried to move towards the market area with slogans protesting the Dhanusha incident.

Durig the vandalism demonstration at the police station, the protestors pelted stones during the stampede and clash between the angry crowd and the police. In the process, the windows and boards of the community police station in Chhapkaiya were damaged. The protestors protested by burning tires and blocking the road at the main places including Chhapkaiya, Idgah Chowk, Ghantaghar and Mudli in Birganj.

Two policemen were injured, one policeman was injured due to stone pelting during the clashes. Police arrested one protester to control the situation. However, they were later released to ease the situation, District Police Office Parsa said.
