Study report of Kerung-Kathmandu railway line prepared

Kathmandu. The Chinese side is going to submit the feasibility study report of the long-awaited Kathmandu-Kerung inland electric railway connecting Nepal and China within the next one and a half months. In a presentation held at the Ministry of Physical Infrastructure and Transport a few days ago, the Chinese technical team informed that the report is being finalised.
Although the presentation covers the design and estimated cost of the railway, the Nepali officials say that detailed discussions will be held only after receiving the report on the investment modality and construction process.
During the visit of Chinese President Xi Jinping to Nepal in 2019, an agreement was reached to prepare a detailed project report for this railway. Since then, the Chinese technicians, who received a deadline of 42 months, had started the on-site study with the financial and technical support of their own country. During the study, drones were also used to understand the geographical and technical aspects of the proposed route. The feasibility study has considered the route from Kerung to Tokha in Kathmandu as the main basis.
