Safe houses, free construction materials and subsidies will be given to disaster affected and vulnerable people

 Kathmandu. The government has proposed a legal guarantee of safe housing for families living in disaster-affected and vulnerable areas. Section 19 of the Bill to amend the proposed Building Act, 2055 has made this provision in Section 16B of the original Act.

According to sub-section 1 of Section 16B of the Bill, the Government of Nepal, the State Government or the local level will arrange for the construction, reconstruction, repair or retrofitting of safe houses for the families living in the disaster-affected, risky areas or the unorganized residents.

For this purpose, the government at all three levels has made a mandatory provision in the bill to make and implement procedures to provide necessary subsidies, free construction materials and technical assistance.
