Reduction in forest fires, reduced by pre-monsoon rains

Kathmandu. Chait month of every year is at high risk of forest fire. But last March, the incidence of wildfires decreased only a little. Due to more than average rainfall before the monsoon, there has been a decline in fire incidents in March compared to the same period of the previous year.

According to the statistics provided by the Department of Forestry and Land Conservation, 466 fire incidents were registered in Chait 2078. This number decreased to 267 in March 2079. It was 249 in 2080 Chait and again increased to 331 in 2081 Chait. In March 2082, only 79 fire incidents have been registered so far. 

In total, there were 2 thousand 162 fire incidents in 2078, but in 2079 it dropped to 1 thousand 270. It reached two thousand 55 in 2080 and three thousand 47 in 2081. In 2082, 424 incidents were registered. Dr Govinda Prasad Sharma, Secretary of the Ministry of Forests and Environment, said that this year there has been a reduction in forest fires due to rains before the onset of monsoon.
