Police 'sweep operation' in the middle of the night: 17 people were arrested on charges of involvement in gangsterism
Kathmandu. The police has conducted a special 'sweep operation' to control the increasing gangsterism and unwanted activities on common people in Kathmandu Valley. The team of Kathmandu Crime Investigation Office has arrested at least 17 people by raiding various places in the valley last night. According to the police, among those arrested are Pravin Tamang, who is active in the Buddhist area, Birju Maharjan, involved in gangsterism in the Kalanki-Bafal area, and Sujan Karki, who created terror around the Kalanki bus ticket counter and petrol pump.
Saru Humagai, Sanjiv Lama, Suresh Giri and Ashok Giri, who were active in Suchhatar area, were also arrested. According to the police, they were arrested on charges of involvement in threats, extortion and illegal activities in the local area.
