Overturning the government's decision to abolish the Land Commission by the Supreme Court

Kathmandu. The Supreme Court has quashed the government's decision to abolish the Land Commission and its district office. On Monday, the joint bench of Supreme Court Justices Saranga Subedi and Srikant Paudel decided to issue a writ petition against the decision. The Council of Ministers had decided to abolish the Land Problem Resolution Commission and its District Committee at the meeting held on October 23.  Earlier, the Supreme Court had given an interim order not to implement the immediate cancellation decision in a petition filed by the Chairman of the Commission, Hari Prasad Rizal. The Supreme Court has given its verdict today. 

Currently, more than 350 officials and members and more than 1100 employees are working in the central office of the commission and in all 77 districts. 
The office bearer has been appointed for 3 years and more than 11 lakh landless Dalits, landless squatters and unorganized settlers have applied for a solution to the land problem.
