Neymar announces retirement from international football after defeat against Norway

Main News Image

Kathmandu. Brazil has been eliminated from the FIFA World Cup 2026 round of 16 after losing to Norway by 2.1 goals in the last 16 match. After this shocking defeat, Brazil's star forward, Neymar, became emotional and announced his retirement from international football.

This defeat on Sunday night at the MetLife Stadium in New Jersey, USA, has brought Brazil's World Cup journey to a complete stop this time. This is the first time since 1990 that Brazil has been eliminated from this stage of the World Cup. As the final whistle blew, 34-year-old Neymar broke down in tears on the field, where he was supported by fellow players.

Star striker Erling Haaland put in a superb performance to make this historic match in Norway's favour. He scored two goals in the 79th and 90th minutes of the game to send his team to the quarterfinals. Neymar scored a consolation goal from the penalty spot for Brazil in injury time, but it was not enough to save the team.
