mediabaaji.com, Kathmandu. With the decision of the Prime Minister Balen Shah-led government to abolish student organizations in universities, its effects are beginning to be seen. In support of that decision, the active National Democratic Student Organization at Midwest University has announced that it has formally disbanded.

In a press statement issued by Sandesh Shahi, the coordinator of the organization, it has been mentioned that the university needs to be developed as a center of study, research and innovation while keeping it free from political interference. In the statement, it has been mentioned that the government's decision is a "welcome and positive step" and party interference, show of power and unhealthy competition in universities have been negatively affecting the educational environment for a long time.

Along with the said decision, all parties have been requested to focus on educational improvement by making the Midwestern University campus completely free of political influence. After the dissolution of the organization, it is believed that a peaceful, healthy and competitive academic environment will be created in the university. Similarly, in the statement, the relevant agencies have been requested to effectively implement the government's decision. In addition, all students, professors and stakeholders are appealed to contribute unitedly for the improvement of educational quality. This decision of the government has shown signs that a new debate about the role of student organizations will start in other universities as well.
