Kathmandu valley was blanketed by snow, but there is no immediate impact on flights and transport
Kathmandu. Cold has been spreading in Kathmandu Valley since Saturday morning. According to the Weather Forecast Division, the hazy atmosphere seen in the valley sky after 10 am is due to the frost haze. Sanjeev Adhikari, meteorologist of the division, informed that till 10 am, there was a breeze in the valley, but after that, it turned cold without any water particles in the air.
He clarified that even if the transparency is less than five kilometers, the situation where there are no water particles is called a hedge and in Nepali it is called Tuwalo. According to the official, the visibility in the Kathmandu Valley is about 3,500 meters. He says that this level of visibility will neither cause major problems in air flights nor will road traffic be affected. However, he indicated that the flight schedule may be affected if the visibility decreases further.
According to meteorologists, due to the influence of the western low pressure system, clouds were seen in the sky of the valley, but the effect was limited to the upper atmosphere, so there was no rain. It is said that the lower atmosphere is dry and the wind speed is low, so the cold is not removed.
If the wind speed had increased, the cold weather could have abated to some extent, but due to the current stable atmospheric conditions, the meteorologist concluded that the foggy environment will continue. He said that in the western region, there was rain in some places because the water vapor air was active.
