'Investigative Journalism Award' to Jeevan Sharma, a journalist dedicated to the search for truth

Kathmandu. Investigative journalist Jeevan Sharma has been honored for his significant contribution to social justice, good governance and increasing public awareness through investigative journalism. Korea Educational Consulting Association of Nepal (KECAN) awarded him "Investigative Journalism Award-2083" in recognition of his unique contribution to investigative journalism, ideological determination, professional integrity and public responsibility by fearlessly exposing the hidden truths of Nepalese society, the pain of oppressed communities and the voice of the victims based on facts and evidence.

V.No. Born on 15th Kartik 2040 in Savik Daharbunga gauis-6 (currently Gandaki rural municipality-5) of Gorkha district as the eldest son of father Bishnu Prasad Khanal and mother Durgadevi Khanal, Sharma started his life journey from an ordinary rural environment. Having made journalism his field of work amid difficult circumstances, he has established a distinctive identity in investigative journalism by boldly publicizing the voice of oppressed, neglected and unjust citizens in the society.

V.No. After receiving journalism training from New Active Media on 14 Baisakh, 2061, he started his journey in journalism through the programs 'Lok Suseli' and 'Pal Prati Pal' broadcast on Pokhara FM 95.8 MHz in the same year. Since then, he has been continuously writing on issues related to public interest, good governance, social justice and public responsibility through radio, print and online media.

His investigative news, special reports and features have been published in various national and regional media including local concern, National Affiliment, Newslines fortnightly, Jan Sabhal Rashtriya Dainik, Midhanh Dainik. In particular, the investigative materials prepared by him on issues such as irregularity in border areas, smuggling of forest products, exploitation of public property, corruption, administrative distortions and illegal transactions have drawn the attention of the relevant agencies and carried out social responsibility.

Currently, he is continuing the practice of investigative journalism by running a local concern newspaper and monitoring daily dotcom. His activism in favor of democratic values, good governance and civil rights has been continuously seen through journalism based on truth, facts and evidence.

Reacting after receiving the award, journalist Sharma said that investigative journalism is a responsible campaign to stand firmly on the side of truth, facts and justice. He said, "Being able to write the truth is the soul of investigative journalism, but this journey is very challenging and risky." He narrated his experience of having to face various pressures, financial shortages, physical threats and even mental stress during investigative journalism and expressed his commitment to continue the search for truth despite such challenges.

While awarding the honor, the organizing organization mentioned that Sharma's unwavering commitment to fearless journalism, fact-based research, fair reporting and social responsibility is exemplary. According to the organizers, it is hoped that his contribution will inspire the new generation of journalists towards honest, courageous, fair and investigative journalism.

In this edition, the language of the news is more formal, modified and adapted to the editorial style of national newspapers. Also word selection has been made more impressive, fluent and dignified.
