Installation of sanitary pad distribution machines in schools
Bhojpur. Ramprasad Rai Rural Municipality of Bhojpur has started installing automatic 'sanitary pad' distribution machines in schools targeting the health and convenience of female students. The machine has been installed with the aim of encouraging female students to come to school with ease and confidence during menstruation. Tham Bahadur Rai, chairman of the rural municipality, informed that machines have been installed in nine schools out of the twelve community schools so far and will soon be installed in the remaining schools.
"In the previous year, we used to send sanitary pads to schools," President Rai said, "but many students hesitated to ask for them because of shame." Now with this machine, they will be able to take it easily and secretly. The municipality has planned to install such machines in seven secondary schools and five basic schools in the first phase. Using the card system through the machine, students can get the necessary sanitary pads at school.
According to the education department, this plan will be effective in solving the problem of decreasing school attendance rate of female students due to menstruation. The branch said that after the machine is installed, it will help the girl students to come to school with self-esteem.
