In Nepal, 52 percent of unsafe abortions, 53 percent of unwanted pregnancies

Main News Image

Kathmandu. Only 134 mothers and pregnant women died due to covid-19 lockdown from Chait 11, 2076 to July 6, 2077. In the early stages of the epidemic, there was a problem in meeting the demand for family planning tools. It has become difficult to provide safe abortion services due to priority given to Corona control. During the epidemic, the utilization rate of family planning services dropped from 39 to 37 percent.

In July 2081, a woman died while having an abortion in a hospital in Chitwan. 32-year-old Navina Mahato of Bharatpur Metropolitan City-26 died prematurely after excessive bleeding did not stop. At that time, health institutions and health workers who provided abortion services were not even registered and trained. In Chitwan, which is developing into a 'medical haven', there has been no decrease in the number of abortion services from unregistered health institutions and untrained health workers.
