Impact of the U.S. blockade in the Strait of Hormuz: Iran loses nearly $5 billion in revenue
Kathmandu. Iran has suffered major economic losses due to the naval blockade imposed by the United States in the Strait of Hormuz, which is considered strategically extremely important. Citing a recent report from the U.S. Department of Defense, the Pentagon, various media outlets reported that after this blockade, Iran lost about $4.8 billion, nearly $5 billion, in revenue from oil exports.
Since the United States tightened restrictions on Iran’s maritime route from April 13, the movement of ships entering and leaving Iranian ports has been almost completely halted. According to the Pentagon’s latest data, more than 40 ships carrying oil and other prohibited goods have been stopped and turned back by the U.S. military since the blockade began.
Currently, 31 tankers carrying 53 million barrels of Iranian crude oil are stranded in the Gulf of Oman, with a market value of billions of dollars.
