High vigilance to prevent Nipah virus infection
Kathmandu. The government has adopted high vigilance to prevent the Nipah virus infection from West Bengal in India from entering Nepal. Dr. Prakash Budhathoki, the spokesperson of the Ministry of Health and Population, informed that high vigilance has been adopted to prevent Nipah infection from entering Nepal. He said that they have started testing people entering Nepal through the Tribhuvan International Airport and border crossings with India.
We have taken vigilance especially at the border crossing of Koshi province. We have asked to check the health of people entering Nepal at other border crossings, he said. Spokesman Budhathoki said that people infected with Nipah virus may die if not treated in time. According to him, the death rate of Nipah virus infection is 30 to 33 percent. Nipah virus is transmitted by pigs, bats and infected humans.
