Han Seong-suk appointed Prime Minister by the President of South Korea
Kathmandu. South Korean President Lee Jae-myung has appointed Han Seong-suk as Prime Minister, Presidential Spokesperson Kang Yoo-jung announced on Wednesday. The appointment is said to be effective from July 1. With this, Han Lee became the second female prime minister under Jae-myung's administration, succeeding Kim Min-seok and the 50th prime minister in the country's history.
South Korea's National Assembly voted 166 in favor of appointing Han Seong-suk as prime minister. Out of the 167 members present from the ruling and pro-government parties, one voted against. A plenary vote was held on June 30, despite a boycott by the main opposition People Power Party PPP, which argued that Han was unfit for the post.
