Fuel prices have increased, but retail prices in Nepal remain the same

Main News Image

Kathmandu. Despite the increase in the price of petroleum products from the Indian Oil Corporation, the Nepal Oil Corporation has decided not to increase the retail price keeping in mind the convenience of the general public. According to the new purchase price received on August 30, there has been an increase of Rs 12.40 per liter in petrol and Rs 4.68 per liter in diesel.

Due to the ongoing conflict in the Middle East, the price of fuel is fluctuating in the international market. However, in view of the difficult situation created due to the extraordinary floods in Bhotekoshi area, the board of directors of the corporation has decided to maintain the same price as before. This decision has come into force on 31 August 2083 from 16 September 2026.

If the price is not adjusted, the oil corporation will suffer a loss of about 1.91 billion 69 million rupees fortnightly. According to the new decision, petrol and diesel will be sold at Rs 200 per liter in Kathmandu, Pokhara and Dipalaya and other areas, while LP gas for cooking will remain at Rs 2060 per cylinder.
