Eight deaths in one month due to fire
Kathmandu. The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority has requested all three levels of government to coordinate and facilitate the necessary preparations, response and recovery activities to prevent the occurrence of fire-related disasters in the dry season. The authority has issued a notification and requested all concerned including United Nations agencies, non-governmental organizations, development partners, private sector, civil society and the media world to take necessary initiatives and support on their behalf.
"According to the warnings and 'alerts' issued by the Authority, it is also requested to play a special role for the necessary vigilance and contribute to civil security", said the notice issued by Shanti Mahat, the spokesperson of the Authority. According to the authority, eight people have died and 55 people have been injured in fire incidents in different parts of the country during the last one month. Recently, due to increasing drought and cold weather, fire incidents are increasing.
Stating that disaster risk reduction and management is possible only through multilateral cooperation, coordination and participation, the authority has requested to spread awareness audio-visual material to target groups, regions and communities to increase awareness for fire disaster prevention and mitigation.
