Durga Prasar is free from prison

Main News Image

Kathmandu. Durga Prasailai, the coordinator of the civil rescue campaign, has been released from prison. Prasain's son, Nirajan, was released from prison after the Supreme Court issued a writ on the petition filed by Prasain's son Nirajan. The writ petitioner claimed that Prasain was illegally arrested and detained.

The bench of Supreme Court Justices Nahkul Subedi and Srikant Paudel heard the application for the release of the prisoner. Prasai, who had announced a nationwide agitation since November 7 with various demands, was arrested by the police from his residence around 12 midnight.

"Since it seems that the justification for investigating the alleged crime against the petitioner or keeping him in custody for that purpose has ended, the order to send all the investigations related to the arrest warrant and extension of time against Durga Prasai is cancelled, and the order of custodial summons in the name of the opponents to immediately release Durga Prasai from illegal detention is upheld," the order said.
