Due to unseasonal rains, paddy production will decrease by 3 lakh metric tons
Kathmandu. Due to the damage caused to the agricultural sector due to the rains this year, it is predicted that the production of rice will decrease by five percent. According to the analysis done by the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Development, the production of paddy has been predicted to decrease based on the data of loss of 3 billion 55 crores in agriculture and livestock sector across the country due to rain.
Mahanand Joshi, information officer of the ministry, informed that 5.955 thousand metric tons of paddy was produced last year.
According to him, due to the effects of climate change, floods, rains, soil erosion and other disasters have caused the most damage in the agricultural sector. Since there has been an increase in rice production for the past four to five years, it was initially estimated that more than six million metric tons of rice would be produced this time. According to the ministry, it seems that it will be difficult to reach the target due to the damage
Due to the fact that the farmers could not harvest the rice in time and could not collect the harvested rice during the time of ripening of rice due to the rains, the concerned farmers suffered huge losses. It is predicted that the rice production will also decrease due to the damage caused to the rice crop by the rain and all the rice that has been cut and stored in the field has rotted.
