Demonstrations flared up again in Bangladesh

Main News Image

Kathmandu. After the death of popular student leader Sharif Osman Hadi in Bangladesh, protests have intensified across the country. As the situation started to go out of control, police and paramilitary forces were mobilized in various areas including Dhaka on Friday. On Thursday night, there were incidents of violence, vandalism and arson in different parts of the country. The protestors also attacked the offices of two popular media outlets 'Prothom Alo' and 'Daily Star'.

This demonstration, which took place when the general elections are scheduled to be held on February 12, has worried the authorities. After six days of treatment, the spokesman of the Inqlaw Forum, Sharif Osman Hadi, died on Thursday. As treatment was not possible in Bangladesh, he was taken to Singapore for further treatment. Masked men shot him in the head in Dhaka on Friday last week.
