Decline in paddy production in Bhojpur: Farmers suffer due to erratic weather
Bhojpur. Due to irregular weather this year, paddy production has declined in Bhojpur district. According to Krishi Gyan Kendra, the production has decreased due to the lack of sufficient rain on time and the unseasonal rain after planting has damaged the paddy crop. According to Ghanshyam Baral, the Information Officer of the Centre, due to lack of timely rain, planting has been affected and the paddy crop has been destroyed due to excessive rain in some places. "Farmers who cultivate paddy have been affected the most by the irregularity of the weather", he said.
Accordng to statistics, last year 37 thousand 790 metric tons of paddy was produced in Bhojpur, this year it has decreased to only 36 thousand 998 metric tons. Not only the production, but also the area under paddy cultivation has decreased. Last year rice was planted in 12 thousand 154 hectares, this year only 11 thousand 500 hectares have been cultivated. The Center's data shows that the unseasonal rains have caused partial and complete damage to paddy crops in an area of about 78 hectares. This year, only about 96 percent planting was done across the district.
Paddy cultivation is done in the lower parts of all the local levels of the district and in the Bensi area. In some suitable paddy areas, farmers have been producing two crops of paddy in a year, but this year, due to adverse weather conditions, the farmers have said that they have suffered huge losses.
