Cyber Bureau does not have digital forensic lab required to investigate crimes: Inspector General Karki
Kathmandu. Inspector General of Police IGP Dan Bahadur Karki has said that the Cyber Bureau does not have a digital forensic lab to investigate cyber crimes. In a discussion on cyber security in the Women and Social Affairs Committee of the House of Representatives on Monday, he said that the Cyber Bureau lacks the necessary digital forensic tools and advanced software.
He said that even though there are some old equipment, it takes a long time to test each digital device because it is insufficient. Mentioning that digital forensics is very important in cyber crime investigation, he said that every mobile, computer or other electronic device should be scientifically tested.
He said that since even deleted content can be recovered through digital forensics, it will provide important evidence in the investigation. However, due to the lack of necessary software, equipment and skilled manpower, research is being affected, he said.
