Correct provisions of the Election Commission: Corrupt and serious criminals are blocked from entering the parliament
Kathmandu. The Election Commission has published a clear legal provision regarding eligibility and disqualification of candidates for the House of Representatives election to be held on February 21. According to which, any person who receives salary from government funds or works in a subsidized organization will be automatically disqualified if he is on the proportional list of the political party.
According to the arrangement, 165 people will be elected directly and 110 people will be elected through the proportional system for the total 275-member House of Representatives. The commission has also determined the percentage based on the population. The first amendment of the House of Representatives Proportional Election Guidelines, 2082 completely barred those involved in serious criminal offenses from running as candidates.
Persons convicted of crimes such as corruption, extortion, human trafficking, drug dealing, money laundering, passport misuse and kidnapping will not be allowed to participate in the election contest. Similarly, the same rule will be applied in the case of those who have been sentenced to life imprisonment and imprisonment of more than 20 years for criminal offenses of moral turpitude.
