Celebrating the Undhauli festival of the Kirant community today

Kathmandu. On the day of Margashirsh Shukla Purnima today, the Kirant community is celebrating the Undhauli festival in honor of their ancestors and nature. The Yakkhas of the Kirat community celebrate the festival of Chasuwa, the Sunuwars the Folsyadar, the Rais the Ondholi Sakela, and the Limbus celebrate the Ondholi in the name of Chasok Tangnam festival. The Limbu started celebrating the Chasok Tangnam festival three days ago. It was the first day of the festival. Today everyone of this community jointly celebrates Undhauli Sakela i.e. Undhauli festival. Kirtikumar Dumi Rai, who is researching Kirat culture, says that this festival, celebrated by different castes within Kirat, is generally known as Undhauli.
The Kirant community celebrates the day as a festival after the harvest of their crops is offered to the Ishtadevata, asking for permission to eat and remembering their ancestors. At the time of planting crops, there is a custom of celebrating Yava or Onbholi festival in the Kirant caste.
For Bhumi Puja, Kirant men and women dress up in ethnic costumes and reach the place of celebration by dancing rice dance in Cheburung Baja lake. Even though the festival and customs are the same, there is a custom to call the festival according to their own language.
