BNP has won the majority in Bangladesh, Tariq Rehman is set to become the Prime Minister

Kathmandu. Bangladesh Nationalist Party BNP has won the majority in the general elections held on Thursday in Bangladesh. Along with this, former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia's son and BNP President Tariq Rehman has been confirmed as the Prime Minister. BNP party won 165 out of 299 seats.
Former Pme Minister Khaleda Zia's son and BNP President Tariq Rehman is almost certain to become the Prime Minister. Rahman, who contested in two constituencies, also won both the seats. He returned to Bangladesh only recently after spending 17 years in exile in Britain. The 11-party alliance led by Jamaat-e-Islami has won only 45 seats so far. Jamaat chief Sifuqar Rehman has won Dhaka 15. Other parties and independent candidates have won three seats.
Rahman returned to the country after 17 years in December last year. Parliamentary elections were held for the first time in Bangladesh after the then Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, who was in power from 1991 to 2024, fled to India and the death of former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia. The June election is giving Bangladesh a new prime minister after 35 years.
