Asar 15: Celebrating Paddy Day by eating Dahi Chiura
Kathmandu. Paddy Day, which is celebrated on June 15th every year, is being celebrated today by working in the fields and eating curds. Farmers who are tired from the hustle and bustle of work eat curds to gain strength. At this time, curd is believed to cool the body and accumulate energy.
Asar 15 is also considered as a festival for eating curds in Nepali society. Apart from farming, Nepalis who are engaged in other professions and businesses also celebrate Asar 15 today by eating Dahi Chiura. Curd has an important place in our culture. For auspicious deeds, before going out of the house, going abroad, etc., before doing important work, it is a tradition to apply curd akshata on the forehead and apply red tika on the forehead. Before leaving for such auspicious work, farewell is done by serving curd as a toast. There is a popular belief that eating curd while walking will make you sick.
Yogurt is also considered to be health promoting from a scientific point of view. It is said that Guru Gorakhnath predicted that Prithvi Narayan Shah, the unifier of Nepal, would become mighty by giving him curd to eat.
