After two decades of the peace agreement, still victims of justice
Kathmandu. It has been two decades since the peace agreement between the government of Nepal and the then rebel CPN-Maoist. A decade-long armed conflict came to an end after the comprehensive peace agreement signed on 5 November 2063. According to government data, more than 20 billion rupees have been spent on transitional justice. However, the victims have not yet received justice. The peace agreement that ended the armed conflict that started in February 2052 and lasted until November 2063 had three major tasks.
First, through the Constituent Assembly, issuing a constitution to ensure the sovereignty of the people, political exit, democratic restructuring of the state and economic-social-cultural transformation. Second, Maoist fighters and weapons management. Third, to create an environment of reconciliation in the society by investigating the truth of people involved in serious violations of human rights and crimes against humanity.
Experts say that the first and second of the three tasks have been completed except for the child army, but the third task is still left. In the peace agreement, it is mentioned that a high-level commission will be formed to investigate the truth of people involved in serious violations of human rights and crimes against humanity during the armed conflict by both sides and to create an atmosphere of reconciliation in the society.
