Abolition of excise duty on 360 items, huge increase in alcohol, junk food and energy drinks

Kathmandu. The government has made extensive changes in various tax rates through the Economic Bill 2083. Presenting the budget for the next fiscal year 2083, 84, Finance Minister Swarnim Wagle informed that the excise duty levied on 360 different items has been completely abolished.

Although the government has removed excise duty on many items with the aim of providing relief to the common people, it has increased the excise duty rates on items that affect health and the environment such as alcohol, tobacco, junk food, dyes and juices. According to the new economic bill, the tax structure of daily consumption and other food items has been changed. According to which, the excise duty of gud, sakhkhar and bheli has been increased from 138 rupees to 140 rupees and the excise duty of sugarcane has been increased from 100 rupees to 115 rupees per quintal.
