A trash barrier was placed in Bagmati River to collect floating wastes

Main News Image

Kathmandu. The empowered Bagmati Civilization Integrated Development Committee under the Ministry of Urban Development has installed a trash barrier to collect the waste materials floating in the rivers of Kathmandu. At present, after the completion of Tras Barrier from Guhveswari, 5 places of Bagmati River are Gokarna Barrage, Guhveswari, Tilganga Eye Hospital, Bagmati Manhara Dobhan, UN Park and one place at Karmanasha Dobhan of Manohara River.

The trash barrier works to stop the garbage items like plastic, polythene, bottles, wood pieces floating on the surface of the river and collect them at a certain place. Due to urbanisation, unorganized waste management in rivers like Bagmati, Bishnumati, Manohara and Dhobikhola in Kathmandu valley, it has been found that large amount of floating waste flows, by installing trash barriers in such rivers, only waste can be removed without blocking the flow of the river. This helps to reduce river pollution.
