70 thousand new voters were added
Kathmandu. The process of registering names in the voter's list is going on. So far 70 thousand new voters have been added. According to the Election Commission, 70,415 people have been added to the voter list till October 2. The process of registering names in the voter's list continues after additional time has been given for those who missed out by amending the law through an ordinance.
The Election Commission had published a notice on October 9 and said that the collection of the voter list had started. Since then, 43 thousand 165 men and 27 thousand 244 women and 6 others have registered their names, said Suman Ghimire, information officer of the commission.
By amending the Voter List Act, the government has arranged for the collection of the voter list even after the announcement of the election. Elections to the House of Representatives have been announced on February 21. After the government amended the legal provision that the voter list is not collected from the date of the announcement of the election, the way for the collection of the list was opened. According to that, the Commission has given the time till 30 October to register names in the voter list.
After the Gen-G movement on 23 and 24 August, the House of Representatives was dissolved on 27 August and new elections have been announced. When the new elections are being announced, a special arrangement has been made by amending the law after assessing that a large number of youths' names are not in the voter list.
