6.2 magnitude earthquake in Hokkaido
Kathmandu. After a strong earthquake of 6.2 magnitude occurred on the northern island of Hokkaido on Monday morning, alertness has been increased as the possibility of more major shocks has increased there. This tremor, which came in the midst of a series of seismic activity in recent days, has given an indication that the risk has not abated yet.
According to the Japanese Meteorological Agency JMA, the earthquake was centered in the southern region of Hokkaido at 5:23 am local time. Its depth is said to be about 83 km, which has been revised to 6.2 after revising the initial estimate of 6.1 magnitude.
