30 new species of birds were found in Gulmi, reaching 355

Gulmi. With the discovery of 30 new species of birds, the total number of bird species found in the district has reached 355. In the recent bird census conducted by the Nepal Bird Conservation Association in the district, 30 new species of birds have been found.  Shambhu Bhattarai, project officer of Nepal Bird Conservation Association Gulmi informed that these birds were found in the bird survey conducted in Resunga, Madane and Thaple Satyavati forest conservation areas of the district. 

Project Officer Bhattarai said that during the survey, 25 new species of birds were found in Resunga Forest Reserve, Madane Forest Reserve and Thaple Satyavati Forest Reserve. Previously, bird surveys were conducted twice a year in Resunga and Madane Forest Reserves, but this time, bird surveys were also conducted in Thaple Satyavati Forest Reserves. 

It is said that among the newly discovered species of birds are Tilahari, thick-billed flower cuckoo, umachanchar, tibilche, Muralidae dhikure vacure, blue lapwing, hotchur chanchar, Halimukh, Sim chicken and others.     

Among the rare birds found in the world, six species of birds are found in Gulmi. Among those birds are Chirkalij, Ranmatt Mahachil, Dangar Gidda, White Gidda, Sun Gidda and Gomayo Mahachil in Resunga Forest Reserve. Kande Vakur has been recorded in Resunga, Madane and Thaple Satyavati forest areas. 


About 40 percent of the 903 species of birds found in Nepal have been found in Gulmi, according to the Nepal Bird Conservation Association. According to the bird survey conducted by the association at different times, 276 species of birds have been found in Resunga forest area, 289 species in Madane forest conservation area and 196 species of birds in Thaple Satyavati forest conservation area. According to the latest survey conducted in all the three forest protection areas, the data of 355 species of birds has been recorded.
