149 countries are open for Nepali workers, labor contracts are limited to 13
Kathmandu. Although the government has opened up 149 countries for Nepali workers, it has signed bilateral labor agreements with only 13 countries so far. With the signing of a labor agreement between Nepal and Saudi Arabia on January 11, the number of countries with agreements has reached 13.
According to the Ministry of Labour, Employment and Social Security, Nepal has signed labor agreements and understandings with Malaysia, Qatar, United Arab Emirates UAE, Bahrain, Israel, Jordan, Mauritius, South Korea, Japan, United Kingdom, Romania, Germany and Saudi Arabia. These agreements were made at various times from 2005 to 2022.
But recently, the officials of the ministry admit that the government has not proceeded as expected in the new labor contract and the renewal of the old contracts. They say that even though Nepali workers have arrived in many countries, they are forced to work with poor services and facilities due to lack of formal labor contracts.
