The Supreme Court asked the Ministry of Defense and the Army - has the Green Army been given consent for military activities?
Kathmandu. The Supreme Court has questioned the legality of the 'Green Army Nepal', which has been using uniforms, insignia and military formations similar to the Nepali Army. The court has asked for a written response from the relevant agencies including the government regarding the organization's registration, operations and activities of a military nature.
The single bench of Judge Nityanand Pandey held a preliminary hearing on Monday and issued a show cause order in the name of the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers, Ministry of Home Affairs, Ministry of Defense, Nepal Army, Nepal Police, Armed Police Force, Social Welfare Council, Kathmandu District Administration Office, Gokarneshwar Municipality, Company Registrar's Office and Green Army Nepal.
The court has asked the opposition to clarify what is the legal basis for the organization's registration, operation, dress, status and activities. During the hearing, a question was raised as to whether the Ministry of Defense and the Nepalese Army had given consent to the non-governmental organization to use military-style uniforms, insignia and military-style structures. Constitutionalist Bhimarjun Acharya said that it would be a serious matter if the Nepali Army had given consent to the Green Army for such activities.
