World Tuberculosis Day: Celebrating public awareness program
Kathmandu. World Tuberculosis Day is being celebrated today with the slogan 'Yes, we end tuberculosis, national campaign, our contribution'. This day is celebrated on March 24 every year with the aim of spreading awareness for tuberculosis control.
With the goal of ending tuberculosis in the country by the year 2035 and making the country free from tuberculosis by the year 2050, the day is to be celebrated with grandeur. According to the Ministry of Health and Population, the slogan decided for this year aims to highlight the importance of national campaign, shared responsibility and public participation.
At the request of the Ministry of Health and Population, the Ministry of Federal Affairs and General Administration has requested all local levels to celebrate this day grandly with the goal of identifying and diagnosing tuberculosis, which is a major public health problem in Nepal, and spreading public awareness.
According to the World Health Organization, 67,000 new tuberculosis patients have been found in Nepal in 2024. Tuberculosis is treated in 6,241 health institutions across the country, while prescribed microscopy services are available in 785 institutions and rapid test services are available free of charge in 142 institutions.
