World Food Safety Day: 600 million sick, more than 400,000 deaths every year due to contaminated food
Kathmandu. Today, World Food Safety Day is being celebrated with various awareness programs amid the increasing consumption of contaminated food and its serious impact on public health. According to the latest alarming data released by the World Health Organization (WHO), about 600 million people around the world fall victim to various diseases every year due to contaminated food.
What is more serious is that, due to such foodborne diseases alone, around 420,000 people in the world are dying prematurely every year. This day is being used globally to spread public awareness about the importance of safe food and its need.
