The purpose of this day is to spread awareness about the risk, prevention and treatment of diabetes. The day has been celebrated since 2007 at the call of the United Nations. The United Nations has been encouraging all member countries to develop national policies for the prevention and treatment of diabetes according to their health systems.
According to the World Health Organization, in 2014, 422 million adults worldwide were affected by diabetes, compared to 10 in 1980. This disease is increasing due to diabetes obesity, unhealthy lifestyle and lack of physical activity. A healthy diet and regular exercise, staying away from smoking and alcohol are the ways to avoid this disease.
The World Organization has emphasized that each country should prioritize long-term health policy, public awareness and creating a lifestyle-friendly environment to prevent the increasing diabetes.
