Kathmandu. With the beginning of Tihar, the second biggest festival of Nepalese, the buying and selling of flowers has increased rapidly. In Tihar, which is a festival of flowers and colors, there is a lot of use of flowers from worship to various social functions. According to Rajesh Bhakta Shrestha, President of Nepal Floriculture Association, Nepal has been becoming self-sufficient in flower farming, which took a commercial form after the decade of 2050. The number of commercial cultivators of cypress and velvet for Tihar is increasing because of the short-term income.

Flower farming is being done in the main cities and 52 districts of seven provinces across the country. According to Chairman Shrestha, there is an investment of more than eight billion 83 million rupees in the flower business in an area of about 270 hectares and it has provided employment to 53 thousand 500 people.
Especially during Tihar, it is estimated that more than 4 million garlands are sold in Kathmandu Valley alone. However, in the financial year 2081, 82, there was a turnover of Rs. 3.37 billion, so the annual growth rate in demand and supply is more than 10 percent. According to the statistics of the customs department, the export of floral products has also increased. In the year 2081, 82, there was an export worth Rs.

Meanwhile, Kathmandu Metropolitan City has decided to ban flowers imported from abroad with the aim of promoting indigenous flowers this year. Metropolitan police chief Rajunath Pandey said that this policy will be implemented through a press conference.
