Kathmandu. Commercial banks have reduced interest rates for the month of January. Banks have reduced interest rates on fixed deposits with effect from January 1. In January, the average interest rate was 4.86 percent for individuals and 3.37 percent for institutions, while the average interest rate for January was 4.68 percent for individuals and 3.38 percent for institutions.

8 banks will continue the interest rate for the month of January, while 11 banks have reduced the interest rate for the month of January. Prime Commercial Bank has increased the interest rate in the month of January. In the month of January, Krishi Bikas Bank 4.40 percent, Everest Bank 4.40 percent, Kumari Bank 4.43 percent, Nepal SBI Bank 4.40 percent, Lakshmi Sunrise Bank 4.50 percent, Citizens Bank 4.50 percent, Prabhu Bank 4.55 percent, Machhapuchhre Bank 4.5 percent, Standard Chartered Bank 4.36 percent, Himalayan Bank 5 percent and Sanima Bank 4.55 percent. Similarly, in the coming month of January, Nepal Investment Mega Bank will give 5 percent interest rate, Nepal Bank 5.10 percent, Global IME Bank 5.50 percent, Nabil Bank 4.55 percent, National Commercial Bank 5 percent, NMB Bank 5 percent, Siddharth Bank 4.55 percent and NIC Asia Bank 5 percent. Prime Commercial Bank has increased the interest rate on term deposits for individuals to 4.40 percent in January. In January, 4.25 percent interest was given to individuals.
