US temporarily eases oil embargo on Iran

Main News Image

Kathmandu. An important diplomatic turn has been seen in the decades-long strained relationship between the US and Iran. The United States has decided to temporarily suspend the tough economic sanctions it is imposing on Iran in ongoing talks mediated by Qatar and Pakistan at the Burgenstock resort in Switzerland. With this decision, Iran will be able to sell its crude oil in dollars in the international market for the next two months.

With this temporary exemption, Iran will be able to sell oil in dollars in the international market with American companies for at least the next two months. Earlier, due to sanctions, Iran was forced to sell its oil through shadow networks and mainly to China.  Iran's crude oil warehouses were full when the navy was deployed and blockaded in the Hormuz waterway, but now it has been agreed that the movement of ships carrying oil and natural gas in the waterway will be restricted.
