Kathmandu. Sri Panchami, which is celebrated every year on Magha Shukla Panchami day, is being celebrated all over the country today by ritually worshiping Goddess Saraswati, the patroness of Vidya. It is believed that if you worship Saraswati on Vasant Panchami, your knowledge and wisdom will increase. Today, devotees throng Saraswati temples all over the country to worship. It is customary to start the alphabet from today to young children who are not sent to school. Nowadays, there is a religious belief that if you learn to read and write, you will get good knowledge.

Saraswati, the goddess of knowledge with fair skin like the moon and holding a veena and a book in her hand, is called by the devotees by names like Bharti, Sharada, Hanshwahini, Jaganmata, Vagishwari, Kaumari, Vardayini, Buddhidatri, Brahmacharini, Chandraghanta and Bhubaneshwari.
