Kathmandu. On the occasion of the 2025 birth anniversary of Jesus Christ, the founder of Christianity, Christmas Day is being celebrated all over the world including Nepal. On this special occasion, the Nepal government has given a public holiday across the country today. Christians celebrate this day as a celebration of love, peace and salvation in memory of Jesus Christ, who was born in Bethlehem, Israel 2025 years ago. According to the Nepal Christian Federation, there is a tradition of celebrating this day in three forms, Umukti Diwasu, Uprem Diwasu and Ushanti Diwasu.
Special excitement in the capital and tourist areas Christmas has been seen in tourist areas like Thamel, Buddh, Lalitpur's Jhamsikhel as well as Pokhara and Sauraha. Shopping malls, hotels and restaurants in major cities are decorated with Christmas trees and colorful lights. People from the Christian community gather in the church to pray together, exchange gifts and exchange good wishes.
National Festival and Participation The Nepal Christian Federation has organized the Christmas Festival 2082 in Kathmandu this afternoon. High government officials and human rights activists will also be present in the program. According to the Mahasangh's claim, there are currently about 3 million Christians and more than 13,000 active churches in Nepal.
Although the holidays were reduced in the past, since the year 2078, the government again started giving public holidays for everyone during this festival, and the effect of Christmas in Nepali society seems to be becoming more widespread.
