Kathmandu. On the day of Ashad Shukla Purnima, Guru Purnima festival is being celebrated all over the country today to show respect to Gurus who recited Gayatri, Diksha, Veda mantras and gave education. According to Tantra Shastra and Dharma Shastra, 'Gu' means darkness and 'Ru' means light, i.e. the person who destroys the darkness of ignorance with the light of knowledge is considered a Guru.

In the scriptures, Guru is also compared to Brahma, Vishnu and Maheshwar. The Vedic tradition of ``Acharyadevo Bhava'' has remained, considering the Guru as a god, just like the parents. On this auspicious occasion, schools, gurukuls, educational institutions and various organizations across the country are organizing special programs and expressing their respect by commemorating the contribution of the gurus who gave education and initiation.
