Main News Image

Kathmandu. In Nepali society today, 15th of July is being celebrated by eating kheer at home according to the original tradition that has been going on since ancient times. It is customary to eat hot kheer on July 15, just like eating curd on June 15. It is believed that kheer, made by adding hot spices to milk during monsoon rains, gives strength to health and increases immunity.

Kheer, called Payas in Sanskrit, is considered sattvic and the best food. In the month of July, the farming work is over and the grass is abundant, so it is a tradition to call Ishtamitara and Choricheli to feed them when the cows give a lot of milk.
