The number of new voters exceeded 257,000

Kathmandu. As of Thursday, more than 257,000 new voters have been registered across the country. According to the data of Election Commission, 257 thousand 505 people have registered new names from 9 October to 27 October. The Sushila Karki-led government, formed after the Genji movement, amended the Voter Registration Act, 2073 and opened the voter registration from October 9.
When it was seen that many Genjis would be disenfranchised in the House of Representatives elections to be held on February 21, the government issued an ordinance and opened the list collection process. Although the government had initially given the time for registration up to 30 October, after seeing enthusiastic participation from the public, the official meeting held today has decided to extend the period by five days and continue the collection of names till 5 November.
