The main road to Makalu was blocked due to the collapse of the belay bridge over the Arun River
Kathmandu. The bailey bridge over the Arun river connecting Makalu rural municipality of Sankhuwasabha-Noom to Seduwa collapsed on Saturday morning. DSP Kumar Prasad Mainali of District Police Office Sankhuwasabha informed that while the heavy vehicle carrying construction material was crossing the bridge, the structure was broken along with the vehicle.
According to locals, the Noom-Sedua road section has been completely blocked after the structure suddenly collapsed while crossing the bridge. With the collapse of the bridge, traffic in the area has come to a standstill. The famous tourist destination Makalu Base Camp is used to go to and fro through this route. After the incident, there has been a direct impact on the transportation of local residents, tourists and daily consumables.
According to the police, there were no casualties in the incident. But it is said that the bridge cannot be put into operation immediately as it is completely damaged.
