The farmers did not get the right price for the ripe oranges in the orchards of Baglung

Main News Image

Baglung. Orange orchards in the rural areas of Baglung have turned yellow at this time. However, the farmers have complained that they are not getting a fair price even though the orchards are looking good after the oranges have ripened. They said that since traders come to the orchards to buy oranges, they are forced to sell them at low prices every year.

Kathekhola, Baglung municipality, Jaimini and Galkot are famous areas for orange production. To Bahadur Khadka, a farmer of Baglung Municipality-8 Sigana, said that oranges, which cost more than 120 rupees per kg in the city, are taken from the village for 40 to 50 rupees. According to him, both farmers and consumers have been hit because of traders.

Khadka, who has been producing millions of oranges, said that the problem is due to lack of environment to market the product properly. He said, if we get the price according to the production, the standard of living of the farmers would be raised, but the traders come in September and take the plantation contracts, we should give them cheaply. Another farmer, Hariprasad Kandel, also said that farmers and consumers were cheated when traders took unnatural profits. He suggested that if there is an arrangement to buy from the farmers at 80 rupees and sell them in the market for up to 100 rupees, it will give relief to both parties.
