Main News Image

Kathmandu. After succeeding in reducing about 18 lakh 88 thousand tons of carbon dioxide emissions through the 'REDD Plus' emission reduction program under the Terai Arch region, the country has received one billion 190 million rupees from the Global Forest Carbon Partnership Fund.

This amount is the first payment Nepal has received under the Emission Reduction Payment Agreement ERPA under the fund. The World Bank issued a statement today saying that this has confirmed Nepal's efforts to prevent forest destruction and promote inclusive and sustainable forest management.

The bank expressed its belief that through this achievement, Nepal will be able to prevent forest destruction, increase biodiversity protection and expand sustainable livelihood opportunities for local communities. Secretary of the Ministry of Forests and Environment, Rajendra Prasad Mishra, said that the amount received proves the joint commitment of forest-dependent communities, tribal tribes and the government.
