T20 World Cup: Pakistan's chances became weaker after New Zealand defeated Sri Lanka
Kathmandu. New Zealand has strengthened its chances of reaching the semi-finals by defeating Sri Lanka by 61 runs in the important Super 8 match under the ongoing T20 World Cup. Along with this, Pakistan's chances of reaching the next stage have become weaker. A win in Wednesday's match has increased New Zealand's chances of reaching the semi-finals, while Sri Lanka has been eliminated from the tournament.
Pakistan, Sri Lanka, New Zealand and England, who are in Group Two, have played two matches each so far. After winning both matches, England has qualified for the semi-finals with four points, while New Zealand has three points after two matches. Pakistan also played two matches, losing one against England and the match against New Zealand was called off due to rain.
Pakistan currently have just one point. Now, Pakistan can reach the semi-finals only if England beat New Zealand by a big margin on Friday and if Pakistan wins against Sri Lanka on Saturday. However, even in this case, the second team from Group 2 to reach the semi-finals will be decided on the basis of run rate.
