Suspicious talk of Gurung and Kilo 1!

Main News Image

It has come to light that the newly elected Parliamentarian of Rashtriya Swatantra Party (RSP) Sudhan Gurung had several telephone conversations with SSP Bishwaraj Adhikari, the then Chief of Police of Kathmandu Valley (Kilo 1) on August 24th, the peak day of the Genji movement.

According to the 'Call Detail Record' (CDR) analysis included in the report of the Commission of Inquiry headed by Gauri Bahadur Karki, it is seen that there was contact between the two on that day twice. The report mentioned that there was a conversation between SSP officer's mobile number 9851280355 and Gurung's 9801066111.

According to the analysis of security sources, the servers named 'Youth Against Corruption' and 'Youth Hub' operating on the Discord platform were active during the agitation. It has been claimed that plans have been made to attack leaders' homes, party offices, government structures and private establishments. In this context, it is also speculated that the police may have been contacted as part of the strategy of making the protestors active and keeping the security apparatus busy elsewhere.

Although 38-year-old Gurung was not the official organizer of the 23 Badau demonstration, he was seen distributing water to the protestors in Maitighar area as the founding president of an NGO called 'Hami Nepal'. However, when the movement gradually turned violent and turned into an anti-government voice, he presented himself as the leader of the GenZ movement.

However, he has not formally taken responsibility for the violent incident that took place on August 24. The report did not draw clear conclusions about the purpose of the dialogue between him and the police chief.
